UX Chair Summer Internships
Overview

The User Experience Chair is proud to offer intensive 16-week consecutive internships, from May 1 to August 21, 2026, at HEC Montréal’s Tech3Lab. In collaboration with the UX Chair’s industry partners, interns will work on a research project in the field of user experience.
The UX Chair is seeking up to 10 undergraduate students to serve as funded summer research interns in user experience.
Interns will be supervised by one of the researchers from the team funded by SSHRC or NSERC.
Students will be assigned to one of the various UX Chair projects and its industry partners (Desjardins, Sobeys, D-BOX Technologies, Vidéotron, Deloitte, Blue Yonder, ServiceNow, CN, CAE, Radio-Canada, LRDG, National Bank, Alloprof), or to a project funded by one of the SSHRC or NSERC research grants.
We strongly encourage individuals who have applied to the Master’s in User Experience, or who have already been admitted to the M.Sc. in UX, to consider this internship as a unique opportunity to join the Tech3Lab research ecosystem. PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
The internship is open to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or who have recently graduated. Applications from students who have applied for admission to the Master’s program at HEC Montréal in User Experience or in a related discipline will also be considered.
Note:
- The internship is open to students from all Canadian universities.
- Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for NSERC’s USRA (Undergraduate Student Research Award) funding (see details on the HEC Montréal website).
- Only undergraduate students, or those who have recently completed their bachelor’s degree, are eligible for this summer internship.
UX Chair Summer Internship Scholarships
The scholarships offered range from $5,000 to $8,000, depending on eligibility for the various federal and provincial funding programs in effect at the time of application submission.
FEATURES OF THE SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Interns will benefit from a structured and stimulating research environment, including:
- Collaboration on a university research project at Tech3Lab, the largest public UX laboratory in an academic setting in the world.
- Supervision and mentorship by a member of the HEC Montréal faculty and by laboratory researchers.
- Training in academic writing and participation in writing workshops.
- Opportunity to contribute to the writing of a scientific article or conference paper.
- Participation in the preparation of laboratory data collection.
- Participation in data analysis.
- Use of laboratory instruments and advanced training in technological and neurophysiological equipment through access to a state-of-the-art research laboratory.
- Presentation of a poster at Tech3Lab’s Research Day during the following fall semester.
EXPECTATIONS OF THE SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Interns must be present full-time at the Tech3Lab from May 1 to August 21, 2026 inclusive, and participate in weekly meetings as well as research seminars. At the end of the internship, they will be required to present a scientific poster or give a short presentation, submit an internship report, and provide a personal reflection (video testimonial and/or a one-page written statement).
The program contributes to the development of scientific communication skills, both oral and written, and offers valuable opportunities to interact with HEC Montréal faculty members, Tech3Lab researchers, and representatives of industry partners.
Finally, the internship represents a strategic opportunity to become familiar with graduate study options (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) within the UX Chair. See below for more information about the UX programs offered by HEC Montréal!
